Our hospital offers boarding on a small scale. There are four runs for large dogs and a number of cages for varying sized animals. The dogs are, in general, housed separate from the cats, in an effort to minimize stress. All dogs, with the exception of medical cases, are walked twice daily to provide exercise and variety during their stays. All animals are required to be current on immunizations (immunizations specified elsewhere but required to be immunized by a licensed veterinarian) and to be parasite-free, in order to minimize to potential transfer of infectious disease. We offer grooming of cats and dogs on a daily basis, but tend to schedule most grooming on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, because of the time required to bath, clip, dry and sometimes, re-clip an animal. Groomings are performed both for aesthetic reasons and therapeutic and comfort reasons. We often will shave-down long-haired dogs and cats just to make them more comfortable. In some animals, notably cats, we have seen an improved disposition and decreased medical problems (skin problems, vomiting, etc.). As with boarding, we do require that animals be current on their immunizations.
